REIKI
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Life Force Energy’ (pronounced ray-key). It is a form of natural therapy which has been used traditionally throughout Japan and India since ancient times. This Life Force Energy can be defined as the energy which resided and acts in all created matter – animal, vegetable and mineral. The Reiki Practitioner channels this life energy through their hands to the recipient, helping to release any blocked energy and cleanse the body of toxins to create a state of balance.
The History of Reiki
In the second half of the 19th Century, Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar and minister, rediscovered and developed this almost-lost therapy system from ancient Buddhist teachings after many years of study, research and mediation. He dedicated his life to Reiki and trained others as Masters who were responsible for carrying on the tradition. Hawayo Takata, one of his first Masters, brought Reiki to mainland America and passed on the tradition which was then spread throughout America, Europe and the rest of the world.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki is energy in its truest sense. It is a safe, natural and holistic form of therapy for many acute and chronic conditions. The recipient is fully relax on a couch whilst the Practitioner places their hands on the recipient’s body in certain positions which helps activate the body’s natural ability to restore itself. The Practitioner is simply the channel. The energy goes to the deepest level of a person’s being bringing about spiritual, mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Why Reiki?
Reiki is different to other therapy methods due to its simplicity. There is no belief system attached to Reiki, all that is required by the recipient is the desire to be healed. It is non-intrusive and does not require the recipient to remove their clothes.
Why conditions benefit?
Many acute and chronic conditions have been known to benefit from Reiki such as stress, repetitive strain injury (RSI), joint and back discomfort, arthritis, sinusitis, migraine, asthma, eczema, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia and sciatica to name but a few. It can be used to great benefit for those who are suffering from terminal illnesses and those suffering with long-lasting complaints. It can also be used as a First Aid for accidents and common ailments such as toothache, cuts, burns and scalds.
Who can be treated?
Reiki is suitable for everyone including children, pregnant women, their babies and the elderly. Reiki is not only for those with noticeable ailments or complaints, those who are will can benefit from Reiki as it is a great ‘pick me up’ and helps maintain health and wellness. All of us at some point in our lives feel that we need a boost or change in direction. Some of us may feel unable to cope with certain aspects of life and need a course of action, whilst others just need to be put back on track. Reiki enables us to return to that state of harmony.
Reiki supports all forms of orthodox treatments and complementary therapies.
